If you’ve long dreamt of honing your kitchen skills, or if you're rather keen to host a dinner party a la My Kitchen Rules or Masterchef, do yourself a favour and book into the Piper St Cooking School.

Just a short drive from Daylesford region, located in Kyneton, within the already popular Piper St Food Co on the main strip of town, these courses cover everything from basic cooking classes, like creating the perfect picnic, to pasta making, to pickling and preserving. You’ll even find seasonal classes, such as making hot cross buns at Easter, and more.

In addition to traditional cooking courses, Piper St Food Co also offer kitchen skills courses, such as knife sharpening, as well as courses designed just for kids, like pasta or chocolate-making. Courses typically range from 2-4 hours, offering both hands-on practice, as well as demonstrations. Participants also get to take home the recipes for the items you've made on the day.

It's all hands on deck in this small class, giving participants plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get helpful hints, tips and tricks.


Class sizes are typically on the smaller side, at about 12, so you're certain to be able to both see the instructor and hear what's happening. You'll also have the option to ask questions.

I was fortunate enough to test out a Cooking Basics: Eggs course which, in just two hours, had me preparing items such as mayonnaise from scratch, learning how to create the perfect poached egg any time, make a delicious hollandaise sauce, and so much more.

Piper St Cooking School's instructor Damian Sandercock's love of fresh local produce certainly shows, as he uses much of what is sourced locally and what's in season. And if you love fine food, you're certain to leave inspired, and armed with Damian's recipe for sauce gribiche.

Making mayo from scratch is just one of the recipes you'll master in this class.


Here's the very best bit: Everything you make (minus what you eat) during the course, you can take home with you at the end of the day, to show off your new skills, and to enjoy the rewards of your work at home.

A full list of all the available classes and time tables are available on the site. And if the class times don't suit you, private lessons can be arranged as well for groups of up to 12, so grab your friends and get cooking.
