Do you know the difference between a shank and a sirloin? What is the best way to cook a lamb short loin? Where would you find a silver side cut?
If these are answers you aren’t sure of, you may benefit from using the new Meat Cuts App, created by Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (MLA).
Not only does this app show you where each cut of meat comes from, it also shows you the best ways to cook them, and offers recipes to boot. And if you can’t find the cut you’re looking for, Meat Cuts will suggest possible alternatives.
The app was designed to help customers match up various meat cuts to the best cooking methods for the best possible result.
“Consumers want to be sure they’re going to get an enjoyable meal, so developing an app that helps consumers increase their understanding of cuts and their most appropriate cooking method was a step to filling the knowledge gap, and increasing the number of beef, lamb, veal and goat dishes in meal repertoires,” MLA Regional Marketing Manager Australia Lachlan Bowtell said.
“Providing consumers with a resource like the Meat Cuts app to boost their confidence in cooking with different cuts helps break down the purchasing barriers and increases their knowledge about different cooking options.”
The app currently contains information on cuts from beef, lamb, veal and goat, with one recipe for each cut, bringing the total number of recipes to 107. With all that handy information right there on your phone, you won't have to wander aimlessly around the supermarket aisles again!
It would be nice, of course, if it also included poultry and pork — two very popular types of meat in Australia — but so far there has been no news of any additions to the app yet. Fingers crossed.
