For the first time since the siege on 15 and 16 December, Lindt is to make the first tentative move towards reopening its Martin Place cafe.

The siege ended after 16 hours with two casualties: lawyer Katrina Dawson and cafe manager Tori Johnson.

The cafe has been boarded up since the attack, but trade companies will visit this week to assess interior layout and design options.

According to The Daily Telegraph, a source said once quotes have been received, a decision on whether the cafe would reopen, and in what format, will be made.

Martin Place office workers, many of whom used to frequent the cafe, have voiced strong support for it to be reopened.

β€œI think it would be a fitting tribute to all the hostages,” said one, who wished not to be named.

Another said: β€œIt would stand as a testament to our strength as a city.”

Would you like to see the shop open again, or would you prefer it to be a memorial? Let us know your thoughts.
