Hiding halfway up Pitt street in Sydney's CBD is one of Sydney's first cupcake store: Cupcakes on Pitt.
This tiny store has been around for over 20 years, preceding the cupcake craze of the late 1990s and early 2000s, which saw an explosion of cupcake stores everywhere, and survived the decline a few years later.
The current owner, Young, is a family man dedicated to making people smile and celebrate any occasion with the tiny creations he decorates in store every day, starting from 4am.

As a Foodi Host, and someone who works in hospitality, I have never seen such dedication to a product and to the customers that Young, his family, and his staff, give at Cupcakes on Pitt.
When I bring my Foodi Cupcake and Dessert tour group to his store, he is always there, smiling his head off, saying hello to the group; he ensures that everyone gets the best cupcake and customer service experience.

All the cupcakes (with the exception of special holiday cupcakes, such as Christmas-themed ones) are all the same price. There are great deals if you buy a box of 6, 12, and so on. All the little cupcakes are almost bite-sized, moist, full of flavour, and beautifully decorated.
All his hard effort was rewarded when, during the 2006 Sydney Royal Fine Food Festival, he was awarded a gold medal for the lemon meringue cupcake, and silver medals for the chocolate, vanilla, peppermint, and strawberry cupcakes. Funnily enough, the best seller is the classic red velvet cupcake.
Personally, I really love the vanilla sundae cupcake, as it photographs well!

Young has big plans for the near future. He is expanding to sell, not just cupcakes, but also fresh coffee, muffins, and maybe some sandwiches made from bread that Young has baked himself.
If you're after a little treat, or need someone to bake 20,000 cupcakes for a store promotion (Young's largest order to date), then head to:
**Shop 2, 323-327 Pitt Street

and see the love and hard work that Young and his team put in to create the best thing since sliced bread.
