Meeting Point: Camperdown Memorial Park, Newtown
Duration: 3 hours

Newtown plays host to a huge mix of award-winning food stops with so much variety, it’s impossible to pick out the cream of the crop. We’ve tried and tested, and brought together the best venues out there to give you the ultimate Newtown Foodi experience.

Filled with great pubs, restaurants, and cafes, this tour will lead you through thriving King Street, visiting several establishments, and tasting sweet and savoury samples along the way.

Hear from each of the venue’s passionate owners about how their establishment came to be, including a discussion on the cronut revolution, and a taste of the most photographed cake in Australia!

This safari also takes you through Camperdown Memorial Park where your host will speak about the history of Newtown regarding its settlement, timeline for development, and current funky persona.

While there’s never a dull moment in Newtown, you will also have the opportunity to pass the colourful Newtown markets, as well as other iconic landmarks.

There will be some walking involved so please wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella if the weather calls for it. This tour caters for vegetarians.

The tour was really interesting - particularly the history of the Newtown area and some of the places that we stopped at along the way. All of the food stops were good. There was quite a variation in styles along the way. The pub at the end was a good place to finish (particularly if you like to have a beer).

I enjoyed all the food places that we went to, it suited my tastes well, and had a pretty good cross section of foods for the amount of time. We also cover a nice amount of Newtown cafe district. I really enjoy the history talks that go along with the relaxed walking. Great for people wanting to find some good places without having to sample everywhere themselves. :-)

We enjoyed our day but felt that the food was not as good or as plentiful as our Surry Hill safari. We do d love learning about the history of the area.

Really enjoyed the food safari - Owen was a great host and definitely made the walk/talk/eat relaxing and fun. The number in the group was good too, as you had the opportunity at different locations to meet and talk to different people. Would definitely recommend the tour and look to doing more in the future.

Owen did a superb job; he is both personable and knowledgeable and is key to the success of this tour. We appreciated learning about the history of Newtown and its culinary institutions. He also improvised on the fly while we were waiting on a restaurant to open and squeezed in a visit to a wholefoods grocer. The event got off to a great start (especially with foodie-focussed highlights like the cronut, xiaolongbao and watermelon cake) but the final (pub) venue was a bit of a let down rather than the climax we hoped for. The curly fries and mac&cheese balls were good, just not substantial enough. Expected something along the lines of pulled pork sliders. C'mon guys, finish with a bang!

It was excellent, enjoyed the whole tour as did my husband and 2 daughters. David was excellent as a tour guide. Loved the Patissi;s and the Black Star Pastry, The Dumplings, to end at The Union Hotel was very good, nice to really relax then.

Owen took us on a well presented fun outing. Owen enlightened us with his knowledge of the area and little anecdotes. Foodie selected great choices to try and the spots were amongst the vibrant happening parts of Newtown. Great day out really enjoyed ourselves. Too many highlights to list ie: sitting in a park eating pazittzi, walking as a group through the throng of Newtown going into places like the nut place I would not normally go to best highlight NO MACCERS :) and the last stop the Pub :) great day thanks Owen and foodie
