Melbourne is the cultural hub of Australia. It boasts a rich, vibrant food culture with some of the best cafes and restaurants. This bread, cheese, and eats tour will take you around to some of these notable establishments so you can treat your tastebuds to some of Melbourne’s finest delicacies.

On this tour, you’ll be taken around to some of Melbourne’s best delicatessens, cafes, and restaurants in the Lygon St precinct. You’ll have the opportunity to sample the best of each establishment, including cheeses, cured meats, dips, and breads, while learning about how each of these are produced and prepared. And if you find something you really like, why not bring some home to share with friends and family?

You’ll be able to see Melbourne from an intimate, local perspective as the proprietors from the various establishments share their stories and passion with you.

There will be some walking involved on the day, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella if the weather calls for it. There will be a sit down break in between.

The tour price covers all food samples, and a drink during the sit-down break. This tour is not vegetarian, vegan or dairy free.

It was good and a good way to learn about some places that may not visit otherwise. I thought there may be have been more salami/cheese to taste.

Very enjoyable and informative. Our guide was very friendly and able to answer all questions. The tour felt relaxed and we had a lovely group. The businesses we visited were well-chosen and the staff at each establishment were interesting and fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food tour on Saturday. Linda (our guide), was so nice and informative. Interesting to hear some of the history of the area and we had a nice variety of tastings of good quality food. Linda was lovely and we were lucky enough to be in the company of a great group of people! Good all round. Thanks, Fran & Bob Peckham.

I loved it.. It included a lot more diversity than I had expected - not just the Italian food cultures...The guides were very engaging - Sheree very knowledgeable and passionate about the area. There were some holdups wth people wanting to shop - perhaps suggest they go back in leisure time after the walk to do that - but I understand that the businesses depend on sales - however they come. Not a big issue. The event at Milk the Cow was very enjoyable - One suggestion would be that the guides ( and there were two with another learning the ropes)ensure that the plates of cheese are evenly distributed across the group. We had five people digging into our platter, while two ladies had one to themselves. They thought it was fabulous of course. It was very impressive how well things were organised in each of the stops with the largish group, other people trying to buy things and the store manager organising samples of food and addressing the group. Very smoothly done.

The tour guide was lovely and took us to places we haven't noticed on previous visits to Lygon street. The tasting plates were great and the whole tour, which lasted 4 hours, was memorable.

Loved having the opportunity to see and taste food from retail shops I would not have gone to when visiting Melbourne. Shireen our guide was great, full of historical information about the area. Was fun ending the tour at the cheese tasting shop. Very friendly staff their and an abundance of good wines and cheeses.

I absolutely loved this tour. It was completely different to what I imagined it would be but in a surprisingly good way. Our tour guide, Shireen was such a delight. Shireen gave us some fabulous insider tips on some of her favourite places to eat. We only had a small group of 4 which was great as it allowed us more time at each stop. The perfect weather contributed to a very pleasant couple of hours. Thanks for the wonderful tour Shireen. I will be trying a "magic" the next time I am in Melbourne! Michelle & Di

Overall it was interesting & went to some produce shops I may have walked past previously. For the price I'm not sure if I would do another one, but I did enjoy the few hours & met some nice people.

Our guide, Shireen was friendly and informative and the whole group enjoyed finding the 'hidden gems' of Lygon Street. Shireen was interested in our club (VIEW/The Smith Family) and was happy to stay and chat at our last venue as we ordered wine and extended our time with her. The pick-up point was excellent. Easy to reach by public transport.

Enjoyed listening to jack talk of his experience of food and taking us around lygon St. He's got a knack for humor and you can tell he loves food by the things he says and how he's able to interact with everyone.

Jack was an excellent guide who clearly understands food and his local area. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and certainly had many delicious food items to sample with a balance of savoury and sweet.
